What I Do
Art direction. Book design. Animation. Doodles! This portfolio offers a select sampling of my work and creativity. There’s SO much more.
If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please ask! I bet I’ve done it.

“Art Director” is a fancy way of saying “art wrangler.” The trick is choosing the best person for a gig and handing ‘em a crystal-clear brief. Then it’s a back-and-forth. Sometimes you gotta hold their hand, sometimes the final art shows up three days early. Okay, that second one never happens, but I usually get my best results with occasional nudges, not by saying here’s-how-I’d-do-it.
I’d love to talk about your AD needs (especially if you need an illustration AD). Even if you’re just looking at my drawings, I figure you want to know how much time I’ve spent on the project management side of the equation.
A lot. In fact, I sometimes prefer it!
Possibly my favorite kind of work, Story Art combines it all: character, motivation, setting, pace, humor, camera angles, setting, you name it! It’s the perfect combination of, um, story and, well . . . art. Dang! Good name!
Sometimes my story work even wins awards! For example, these animated Lego Women of Nasa shorts won a gold medal Telly Award.
Creating unique characters is not an easy task.
I love the work I’ve done for companies like Disney and Lego, but a lot of it was within the bounds of well-established properties like Mickey Mouse and Batman. I LOVE Batman, but do you know how many times I pitched a plaid shirt for Batman? None, because I don’t like blank stares. ‘Cause you can’t mess with Batman. Not really.
My brain’s a pretty wacky place. If you’re trying to develop new characters, that power is perfect for your new and unexpected project. So let’s talk about it!
And heck, if you’ve got a Batman project, you should still call me. I promise not to pitch a plaid bat-shirt unless it makes sense.)
Cartoons & Illustration
I can never decide which of my kids I love the most. Sometimes it’s Tim, other times, Tina’s the best. I’m exactly the same way with work. Story Art is frequently number one, but I’d do spot illustrations and cartoons for free if I didn’t need money to feed those darn kids.
I don’t actually have kids, but if I did I’d probably love them equally and spend less on food for myself.
