The Lego Minifigures featured in these product animations have two face decorations, and I wasn’t allowed (by law!) to animate them. So I used cuts and pans as opportunities to switch between decos.

I drew these FAST, so they’re closer to beatboards, but the client liked ‘em so much they shifted the scope from social media to in-cinema!
My work ended once the pitch was accepted so I expected major changes, but it’s danged close to what I designed.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie - Looping GIF pitch boards
The brief asked for pitch boards for 12 “weird looping GIFs.” So I went weird!
A bunch of ‘em were made, but I’ve never been able to track down the finals. Wish I could. I really want to see Master Wu as a DJ.

I prefer to polish boards more than this, but sometimes there isn’t time. And as much as I hate to admit it, the basic idea is more important than perfect clarity.
The four final stop-motion videos turned out great, and won a gold medal at the 39th annual Telly Awards!
